"That's nonsense, Ashitaka. You're better than that Akisaka....by miles."
Sasuke opened his mouth to say something else, but was interrupted by Akane. He rubbed the back of his neck for a moment. Of course he was proud of him. He was just angry that the better person hadn't gotten the higher position.
"Of course we are. Congratulations, Ashitaka."
Toshiro nodded. Although, he wasn't looking to that day at all. A small smile appeared on his face--there was no need to worry about that until the day actually came. For now, he would continue on as usual.
"Hai. You're right, dear."
With that he smiled broadly at her.
"Any plans for today?"

Ashitaka laughed, shaking his head and letting out a small, inaudible sigh. "Thanks, I guess..." he said, his attention growing absent from his parents as he looked around the room; "Where's Keiji...? I wanna see him before I head out again." Akane heaved a great sigh at the name, earning a raised eyebrow from Ashitaka.
Keiji stiffened attentively in the hallway at the mention of his name, though he kept silent. He waited quietly for the responses, as well as footsteps in case he should dash back to his bedroom.
---
"Mm..." Sakura mumbled the noise absently as she thought on it. She was quiet for a few moments, but finally she shrugged and shook her head. "Not that I know of," she said, then seemed to remember something; "Oh! I was going to ask earlier if you wanted to be sociable and have lunch with Akane and Sasuke; maybe share the news of Takashi with them, I'm so proud." She grinned, then paused. "Unless you had other plans?"

Sasuke sighed slightly.
"Keiji has an attitude problem as of late. I had to scold him earlier...but I don't think he cared. He's up stairs if you think you can handle him."
He pointed towards the stairs and returned to his seat, heaving another audible sigh. This day couldn't have possibly gotten any worse for him.
Toshiro thought for a moment. He couldn't resist the urge to go gloat in front of Uchiha Sasuke. After a split second deliberation, he would nod vigorously. This was going to be an extremely fun time.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea, dear!"
He couldn't wait to see the look on Sasuke's face after the good news would be told. Maybe he'd go crazy before lunch was over! That would be wonderful!

Ashitaka heaved a sigh almost as great as his father's, turning his gaze to the stairs. "That again...?" he mumbled. He gave his parents a quick glance before turning and walking toward the stairs.
Keiji heard the steps and the quieted voices. His heart skipped a beat out of fear from eavesdropping, and he scrambled as quietly as he could toward his room. "Yeah, forget that, little brother" he heard Ashitaka say from the top of the stairs, freezing him in defeated place; "You're loud when you run." He laughed, easing the tension in the air. Keiji turned, forcing a crooked smile. "C'mere... Come downstairs for just a minute, buddy." Ashitaka smiled warmly and motioned for Keiji to follow. "I'll fix it, okay...?" The boy did as he was told, his head hanging as they made their way down the stairs and back into the main room with their parents.
---
Sakura laughed, her eyes bright as a smile spread across her face. "You're hilarious," she mused aloud, folding her arms and watching her husband as though he were a complex something; "I already see that look in your eye; you're dying to rub something in Sasuke's face. Neither of you have grown up at all; Naruto is probably the most mature of any of you boys nowadays. That's a little funny."

Sasuke turned and looked at the two of them as they made their way down stairs. He raised an eyebrow, wondering what it was that Ashitaka had to say to them that would involve Keiji. Hopefully it would have something to do with a decent apology for his attitude earlier.
"Hn?"
Toshiro laughed rather loudly. She knew him all too well to be able to tell what he was thinking just by the look in his eyes. It was true, Toshiro couldn't wait to rub his son's success in Sasuke's face. It was going to be a thing of beauty....that was for sure.
Then the comment was made about how he and Sasuke hadn't grown up. He had to laugh at that as well. It was absolutely hilarious! Though....it was completely true. Naruto probably WAS the most mature out of them.
"Isn't that one of the reasons you find me so charming?"

Ashitaka held up a finger, indicating for his parents to wait just a moment. He turned his attention to Keiji and, in an undertone only Keiji could hear, spoke to the boy for a minute. As he fell silent, Keiji nodded, though it was a very hesitant and expected nod. Ashitaka stood back up again, placing a hand on Keiji's shoulder, who had his gaze glued blandly to the floor. "...Sorry," the youngest muttered again, though it was less bitter than before. "...Just thought I'd get that out of him of his own free will," Ashitaka put in, ruffling the boy's hair; "Forced apologies don't do any good." He let the boy go, and with a single glance at their parents, he traveled back upstairs, completely wordless.
"...He's a smart kid," said Ashitaka once Keiji was gone; "He really is. I'll see it one day; so will you two." He gave his parents a quick smile and a wave, then turned on a heel and headed for the door. "I'll catch you all later. I don't wanna be late on my first day as Lieutenant!" And he was gone again.
---
Sakura shoved Toshiro's arm playfully, careful to avoid pushing him too hard--let's avoid super strength in the kitchen. "I find you charming for plenty of reasons," she said, her eyebrows furrowing playfully. She paused a somewhat long pause. "That is one of the reasons, though." She flashed a bright smile at him. "I find your silly immaturity a little amusing every once in a while."

Sasuke glanced over at Akane before he let out a small sigh. At least he had gotten a decent apology from the boy. So the day wasn't a complete let down--even if Akisaka Takashi was in command of his son. He would just have to deal with that.
He waved goodbye to Ashitaka as he left the house and turned his gaze to his wife.
"....any other bad news for me today?"
"Glad to know that, my dear!"
Toshiro reached for her hand, a large grin on his face. The time was growing near! Operation: Ruin Sasuke's Day was almost a go!
"So....when do we get to visit our dear friends?"

Akane let out a laugh, walking to Sasuke's chair and stooping over in front of him, brushing a bit of hair from his face. "Be a little more positive, dear," she told him simply, smiling; "Give things a chance first, y'know?" She fell silent for a moment. "...Life is a lot better now than it used to be. We should enjoy it."
---
"We can go whenever Takashi gets back..." Sakura answered, the smile still on her face; "That way they can have their kids at home as well, and we can all hang out together. I wonder what Naruto is doing today?"

"I'll try. But I'm not making any promises."
Sasuke fought the urge to smile at his wife--he couldn't let anyone know that he smiled genuinely nowadays. That wouldn't go over well in the end. Neighbors would actually start coming over to borrow sugar or something like that.
He nodded slightly as she stated things were better than they were previously.
"Yeah. That's for sure."
"Sounds good to me!"
Toshiro smiled at his wife's question. Knowing Naruto, he was probably attempting to deal with a large stack of paperwork. Either that...or he was trying to figure out a way to avoid doing such work.
A single thought hit him. It had been months since the last time he and Naruto had hung out. There was only one solution to this problem--he would need to be invited as well. He looked over at her and opened his mouth to speak.
"Should we invite him as well?"
Takashi scratched the back of his head as he made his way toward his designated spot. He stifled a yawn as he attempted to reassure himself that this position wouldn't be boring. Hopefully he was correct. Taking orders directly from the Hokage was definitely something that made it all worth while.
"Can't wait to meet my subordinates!"

"Well... I hope you're feeling sociable today," Akane said suddenly, standing up straight and smiling as she turned around to walk toward the kitchen; "So practice smiling a little before noon."
---
Sakura nodded without hesitation. "We haven't seen him in a good while," she answered, then a laugh broke through; "That, and I'm sure he could use a break from all that work he's probably fussing about doing. He never gave a thought to how much paperwork was involved with the job when he was constantly saying I'll become Hokage!." Again, something came to mind, and she laughed. "Another thing, I'm sure grouchy old Sasuke could use some cheering up. Naruto's the right medicine."
---
"Present and accounted for, one Uchiha Ashitaka!" Ashitaka wandered up from Takashi's side, an arm lifted into the air in greeting with a smile on his face. "Good morning, Captain." His hand remained lifted, awaiting a usual high-five.

Sasuke raised an eyebrow, wondering what she was talking about. A moment later it hit him--they were all having lunch together today. He heaved a huge sigh and looked sour. He was going to have to look at Akisaka? It would take every bit of restraint he had not to attempt to kill the former Kumonin.
"...bah. Terrible day."
Toshiro grinned at the thought. The gang would be united once again! The child in him wanted to jump for joy...but the grown up inside wouldn't let him. He nodded at Sakura's statement, knowing that she couldn't have been more right.
"Oh, I have no doubt that he didn't have the slightest clue about the paperwork involved."
He paused.
"Though, I'm sure that wouldn't have stopped him even if he did know."
Toshiro's smiled grew even wider. It was safe to say that if he smiled any wider, the top of his head would fall off.
"That is definitely the truth. Naruto has a way of brightening a person's day. It's strange."
Takashi couldn't help but burst into laughter at Ashitaka's greeting. He would raise his hand and give him the normal high-five and attempted to regain his composure. After that was said and done, he gave a small sigh and looked to his best friend.
"That is definitely going to be hard to get used to."

Akane had to fight hard to keep her laughter in. It was a short-lived battle, however, and she finally let it out, unable to contain the chuckles any longer. "You're such a grump," she said from the kitchen, flashing a smile from the door; "But you're my grump." She paused, thinking something over. "Cheer up, Sasuke-kun," she said, using a term she hadn't in a long while; "Maybe you'll get to see Naruto today. And the kids will be occupied with each other and out of your hair."
---
"Sasuke won't admit it as long as he lives," Sakura continued, shaking her head and smiling; "But he really enjoys things like this, now that he has it." She nodded afterwards at his statement, still grinning. "And yeah... He really does have that gift, huh?"
---
Ashitaka clapped Takashi on the back, grinning still and laughing at bit himself. "Ah, well... You've gotta start getting used to it starting today," he said, then grinned a bit wider; "Heck, you get to boss me around, ne?" He saluted, then made a face. "Just...as long as you don't have me do something completely embarassing, we're still cool."

"I guess it won't be too horrible."
Sasuke let out a small sigh and looked out the window. Hopefully things would start to turn around today--though he wasn't going to count on it. Even though he would never admit it, he was partially looking forward to this...except for Akisaka. He was going to drive him crazy.
"...I can't be held responsible for anything that happens to Toshiro today."
Toshiro nodded in agreement with her. He knew that deep down, Sasuke wasn't the huge jerk that he wanted everyone to think he was.
"Yeah. Hopefully he can at least pretend he's human today. He'll probably be ready to strangle me before it's all said and done."
He let out a loud laugh.
Takashi shook his head.
"That's bad news. Cause my first order for you is to go streaking through Konoha shouting old nursery rhymes."
The boy waited for a few moments, attempting to keep himself from laughing--he failed miserably. Wiping a tear from his eye, he would shake his head once more.
"You don't have to worry about that. I wouldn't have you do anything that I wouldn't do myself."
He patted his friend on the shoulder and continued on.

Akane wandered back into the room, wiping her damp hands with a towel and shaking her head at her husband. "Keep your cool," she told him, though she couldn't fight a smile; "Be the bigger person, if it bothers you so bad."
---
Sakura laughed with him, grinning widely. "Yeah..." she agreed, amused; "Don't provoke him too much; you know how he gets when it comes to things like that." ((bah, short -.-))
---
Ashitaka let out a feigned sigh, but joined in the laughter a moment later. "Well..." he said, folding his arms; "There go allllll my chances with the ladies." He laughed again. "I'm not sure if streaking and screaming would be attractive." He let the joke finish and let out a content sigh. "But hey...at least I'm not just a peon." He jammed a thumb at his chest proudly. "Lieutenant reporting for duty, right?"

Takashi nodded in agreement.
"Of course! Now let's hurry up before we're late."
With that, Takashi took off at a quicker pace. He didn't bother looking behind him to see if Ashitaka would follow suit--he already knew.
[:: Later that day::]
Takashi made his way back to his parents place, wanting to stop by for a bit to tell them a bit about his day. He placed his hands behind his head leisurely as he walked at a slightly slower pace than usual.
He stifled a yawn as he approached his destination.
"Oh man. What a day."
