PERSONA
Honest and loyal above all else, Toshiro is a kind-hearted man who will do anything for his loved ones. The type of man who follows through with his promises to the best of his ability, he is known for his dependability and leadership qualities, should the situation call for it. Due to this, he has a habit of giving motivation to his allies in attempt to bring out their maximum potential.
The man is extremely fun to be around thanks to his lively sense of humor and knack for putting a funny spin on things that could be considered awkward to talk about. Extremely energetic and optimistic, and oftentimes dramatic--Toshiro acts as if he was an actor and the world was his stage.
All in all, he is a fun loving individual with a big heart.
On the other hand, for every strength, there happens to be a weakness. Because he cares so much for his loved ones, he tends to be a bit smothering when it comes to relationships. Not one to back down from a fight if it means protecting someone, he often finds himself rushing into dangerous situations without a second thought.
In the end, you can always count on Akisaka Toshiro to be there.

Background
The Living Years
Akisaka Toshiro was born in Hachiōji, Tokyo to loving parents Sojiro and Hitomi. From an early age, it seemed as though he was destined for greatness. His father was a successful merchant and spent a great deal of money on his son's future. Even though Toshiro had a terrible time learning and didn't show much promise, his father pushed him hard to strive for excellence in everything that he did; he was always taught to never give up.
Almost completely opposite of his father, Hitomi was very affectionate toward her son. When Toshiro would get scolded by his father, his mother was usually right behind the man, smiling at the child. She often took him on walks and would encourage him to keep going through tough times in school and other hardships that he had to face. Unfortunately, Toshiro's determination would be tested from a young age when he lost his mother.
About two months after his thirteenth birthday, Toshiro had just gotten back from his daily routine and was surprised to his father home early. Apparently his mother had decided to take a stroll and was on her way back home when she was abducted by a group of people. Apparently they were a group of kidnappers hired by a local crime syndicate to collect a ransom for the woman and her child. Having gotten on the line with Sojiro, they asked for an almost impossible sum of money in the short time they had allotted.
When he arrived with the money, things seemed to be going smoothly. That was until one of the men pulled his wakizashi and stabbed Hitomi twice and retreated. The poor woman was in desperate need of medical attention. Unfortunately after all the doctor did, it wasn't enough. After saying a final goodbye to Sojiro and her son, she passed away due to the multiple stab wounds.
Though his father loved him, he was too hardened by the loss of his wife and much too busy with work to pay much attention to the boy. Even though he had gone through such a stressful time, he knew what his mother would have wanted—and that was for him to continue with his life and follow every word of advice that she had given him. So the years went by and Toshiro continued to grow mentally and physically, deciding that he wanted to be part of the locally appointed police force to attempt to keep some other child from dealing with what he had to.
Eight years later, and after a large amount of training, Toshiro had become an officer of the police force and did his best to keep the streets safe for everyone. In the short time that he had been a part of the force, he had managed to arrest a few members of the same crime syndicate that had been responsible for the death of his mother; however, this would prove to make the syndicate as a whole angry enough to make Toshiro's life a living hell. Despite all of this, the man remained calm and levelheaded—refusing to give in.
He continued his career for another five years before tragedy struck. On a walk through the street one day, he passed an alleyway and looked over just in time to see a woman and her son being held at sword point. He had no idea what was going on...but it didn't matter at all. Without thinking, he charged forward with his sword drawn and knocked the two out of the way, sacrificing himself to the man's blade to save the woman and her child; however, with his last bit of strength, he managed to impale the assailant and put a stop to his evil.
And finally Toshiro collapsed onto the ground--his breathing harsh and ragged. Though, as he laid there dying, a smile crossed his face. Another job well done.
Dead!?
After his death, Toshiro had become a plus—but didn't stay in the world of the living for long. A Shinigami that had rolled through performed a Konsō and then found his way into the Soul Society. He was quickly taken in and given a home. While he wasn't lonely, there were certain things that just weren't available for the man—like food. He soon found himself to be hungry and without sustenance. The thought of stealing food simply brought a bad taste to his mouth but there wasn't much he could do. Though from time to time he wondered whether a soul could die of starvation.
In the end, he proved to be a horrible thief and only managed to feed himself when it was absolutely necessary. Eventually, weak, tired, and slightly delusional, he ended up falling face first into the path of a Shinigami passing through the area with a rumbling stomach.
And that is where things really started to pick up. Toshiro ended up being thrust into the Shinigami Academy where he spent the next six years of his...well...existence. The time seemed to fly by thanks to Toshiro's excellent attitude and outlook on the whole situation. Even after death, Toshiro had managed to keep his never say die attitude—strange huh? This was extremely helpful in his everyday life as he constantly gave it his all in hopes of becoming a Shinigami.
After graduating from the academy, Toshiro was given an unseated position in the Kyubantai. This didn't bother him, as he felt that it was even more of a chance to prove himself. So instead of being bitter, he spent a great deal of time training and helping those in need. He never lost hope that he would one day receive a higher spot in the Gotei 13 even when it seemed ridiculously impossible. He would constantly work toward that one goal and overcome any obstacle that he needed to.
He spent the next one-hundred and sixty-five years gradually moving up in position as he proved himself more worthy to hold the title of Shinigami until he had been given a 5th seat position. Not one to rest in his laurels, Toshiro promised himself that he would get even better. He had made a vow to himself on that day. He told himself that he would become stronger not only to gain recognition, but to protect those in death as he had in life.
