Maddie put a finger to her chin, pondering the statement. "Hm... He is, now that I think about it," she agreed with a small nod, dropping her hand and continuing along with the boys. "I haven't paid much specific attention since I got here... There's so much stuff to take in, it's hard to focus on any one thing." The mild ADHD didn't help. Her attention was from one thing to another quite frequently; it always had been, but she'd always considered it a form of a 'free-thinker' rather than a liability.
Nate, however, seemed concentrated on other things, his gaze flicking from place to place as they walked through the woods. His attention was vaguely caught as they neared their own team's flag, flanked by a few people on guard. Briefly Nate eyed them, wondering who their parents were, or how long they'd had to wait, if they were still waiting...
"...Hey...Zachary?" he asked, looking over at the boy; "You said you've been here for two years, un...undetermined." He paused, sighing lightly. "How...how long can it take?" Directly after his question, Nate felt a bit embarrassed, as well as slightly nervous of the boy's response; the way he'd answered Thomas earlier on the matter of Olympian parents caused him curiosity. But it was too late to take back spoken words; it was only lucky if the person went without hearing you, but in this case Zachary surely heard the boy speak up.

Having heard the question directed toward him, Zachary mentally cursed. It was always the same question--every time. He had asked it multiple times when he had started at Camp Half-Blood. The answer was simple...and yet it was ridiculously complicated at the same time. Unfortunately there were no easy ways of telling the truth in this situation.
No easy let downs. Only hard truth.
He was quiet for several minutes with a strange look on his face. It was angry, sad, and apologetic all at the same time--if that made sense. Leaning against a nearby tree, Zachary glanced up at the sky before looking back over to Nate. Even after his gaze fell onto the boy, Zachary remained quiet for some time as if he was searching for the right words.
"Nate..."
With a sigh, Zachary pushed off the tree gently and rubbed the back of his neck. "Sometimes...there are kids who's parent never claims them. So...it's hard to judge how long it can take." Turning back around and casting an angry glance back up at the sky, he walked forward, feeling bad for having to bring that bit of unfortunate news. Shrugging slightly before looking over his shoulder, he sighed again. "It really just comes down to the parent..." he finished.

Nate fell into a bland silence as Zachary's somewhat bitter answer came. It figured. Why had he even asked? He gave a stiff and awkward nod, turning on a heel and walking nearer to the flag, away from the two.
Maddie sighed, watching her brother's back for a few moments before turning to Zachary. "I'm sorry..." she said, though she was unsure why she was apologetic; "Nate is... It's just a sore subject for him. He isn't a grumpy person at all; he used to smile and laugh a bunch, up until we learned about all this... But even then, it still kinda touched a nerve whenever our dad was brought up." For a few seconds she watched Zachary quietly, considering careful words.
"...It...seems to bother you as well?" She fell silent immediately afterwards, wondering if she'd said the wrong thing now.

Watching Nate walk away from them, he couldn't help but be reminded of his own frustration with the gods. He frowned a bit before Maddie's apology for her brother brought him back into reality. Listening to her speak of how he was before the news of camp half-blood, he couldn't say he was surprised at all."...it's understandable. No need to apologize for the kid." he replied, shaking his head. "...It...seems to bother you as well?" "Yeah. It does." His reply was rather simple--but it wasn't going to end there. A question such as that deserved a more in depth answer...and so he would give one. "I've waited two years for my parent to claim me. I've made offering after offering....and I've made great progress in my training--all for them. All in hopes of one day receiving that tiny bit of acknowledgment." he added. Pacing back and forth again, he remained as quiet as he could as to not give away their position. "But two years later and where am I? No closer than when I started? So does it bother me?" he asked. "Yeah. It ticks me off--but at the same time makes me want to work even harder."
